...thoughts on Guns and Tolerance...

Today while driving to work, I saw the common sticker, “guns don’t kill people, people kill people”.  True that.
However -  the fact remains that there are some people who should not own guns.  Period!

Guns in the hands of children have had tragic consequences - but knives and other seemingly innocuous household objects have had the same effect.

Guns wound and maim and kill.  But so do words, in a way.  So do cars.  So do drivers with cell phones, for that matter. Though one could argue that guns are specifically designed for that purpose.

I am, in fact, a passionate pacifist and have no leanings towards the NRA, but it occurs to me that weapons are all around us and therefore it is our responsibility to counteract them with kindness, care, and concern - all the time.  Now I am stuck with Bill Idol's "don't need a gun in my head"

Tolerance is a word steeped in patronization and condescension.  It implies, "I know I am right, but I will bear the burden of leaving you be."  Come on!  Acceptance is the key.  And yes I know, tolerance is better than hatred and prejudice.  But rise to the occasion and accept that the world belongs to you and to everyone else too.

That's my four cents, folks.  Rise to the occasion and be kind - because tomorrow is not promised to any of us.
