India Wins ...

... congrats!

Bengalis are happy - after all, most of them are from India

Bangladeshis on the other hand, probably not so much - you see, they would rather Sri Lanka had taken the cup, if not their beloved Bangladesh or Pakistan

Since Bengali is one of the most spoken languages in the world, there are a lot of conflicting Bengali words flying through the airwaves right now.

"eesh, ki hoilo!"
"shabvaas, shabvaas!"
"vbhaa vbhaa ..."

Either way - the world cup is back in the sub-continent where it belongs.  So here's to the Indians (and certainly the Bengalis), here's to the Sri Lankan, here's to the Bangladeshis, here's to the Pakistanis.  ... Here's to the Indian subcontinent ...

Happiness and Facebook

Deepak Chopra's "Power, Freedom, Grace" has touched me.  In reference to Vedanta, he quotes that happiness is blocked (or cloudied or obscured) by a number of things, one of which is our identification of who we are to our 'image' and 'what we do'.  By extension we block happiness by stressing on what others think of us, or what we think they think of us.  How very stressful.

It occurs to me that status update aspects of social media like Facebook and Twitter, where the main purpose is to draw constant attention and to garner outside reaction, is a deterrent to the Vedantic definition of happiness and to truly connecting and identifying with the 'power and grace and freedom' of our oneness and consciousness to the universe.

I need to give this more thought ... especially due to the current relevance of social media in the middle east.

potential shows no one would watch ... and other opinings

potential shows no one would watch:
"the Real Housewives of Amish country, Pennsylvania"

"Classroom Tonight" - as opposed to "Entertainment Tonight"

"Access Albany (NY)" - as opposed to "Access Hollywood"

glowing recommendations for some R & R:
'Sitting on the Moon' - Enigma
'Grenade' - Bruno Mars

Great Read (excellent for book club):
'The Help' - Kathryn Stockett

guilty recommendations for some time a wastin':
'The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' - that Lisa is a laugh and a half!

'Jersey Shore' - I regret watching my first episode ever (opener of the 3rd season) in a misguided attempt to find out who exactly were Snookie and The Situation. Simply awful, mind-bogglingly trivial show - and yet I watched the entire 1 hour unwilling to change the channel... dear Lord!
